Student Council

What is Student Council?

Student Council is a group of dedicated student leaders who work to serve their school and
community while developing valuable leadership and communication skills. At Bluff Dale ISD,
our Student Council (StuCo) currently consists of 32 active members. Beginning with the
2025–2026 school year, our StuCo proudly joined the Texas Association of Student Councils
(TASC), providing students with greater opportunities for leadership development, networking,
and state-level involvement.

StuCo plays an important role in supporting both the school and the wider community. One
example of this involvement is our annual Bluff Dale Thanksgiving lunch, which is open to
community members, students, and their families. StuCo members volunteer their time to help
with setup, food service, and cleanup, ensuring the event runs smoothly. All members are
required to complete a minimum of 10 community service hours each year to remain in good
standing.

In addition to service, StuCo focuses on helping students grow as public speakers and
representatives of the student body. Each year, members organize and participate in our
September 11th and Veterans Day programs, which include public speaking responsibilities.
Additionally, one junior high and one high school student are selected each month to speak at the
Bluff Dale ISD school board meeting, providing updates on Student Council activities and
initiatives.

StuCo also leads a variety of fundraising efforts throughout the school year. For example, every
Friday we host “Hat Day,” where students may pay $1 to wear a hat. All proceeds from this
event are donated to Patriot Paws, an organization that trains service dogs for veterans. The
majority of our fundraising, however, comes from running the concession stands during
volleyball and basketball seasons. Additional fundraisers help purchase needed supplies for the
school and support larger projects selected annually by the council. This year, those projects
included awarding a senior scholarship and establishing a college application fund to assist
juniors and seniors in planning for their future.

Another key focus of StuCo is increasing student involvement and school spirit. For example,
Junior High StuCo members initiated a morale-boosting campaign by posting encouraging sticky
notes around the school, including in hallways and bathrooms. Recently, our High School
Student Council was also approved to adopt a stretch of highway off FM 2481, which will allow
our students to contribute to the local community in a new and meaningful way.

StuCo meets weekly on Thursdays during the “Success” period in Ms. Briggs’ classroom, with
additional meetings scheduled during lunch breaks as needed. To join, students simply need to
complete and submit an application at the beginning of the school year to be considered for
membership of the current year. All interested students are encouraged to apply and become part
of a team that is making a difference both on campus and beyond.
